VANCOUVER -- The BC Lions locked up another key piece on Monday with the signing of National defensive back Cristophe Beaulieu to a one-year extension. Beaulieu was eligible to become a free agent following this season.

"Cristophe's ability to play multiple positions at a high level made him a priority for us to re-sign,” said general manager Ryan Rigmaiden.

“He's another versatile chess piece that gives our coaches flexibility with the roster and the ratio. He has a very bright future here with the Lions."

Beaulieu has registered 11 defensive tackles, one tackle for a loss and one pass knockdown in three appearances this season. Selected by the Lions in round three (26th overall) of the 2024 CFL Canadian Draft, the native of Blainville, Quebec emerged as a starting safety in his rookie campaign, recording 26 total tackles (14 defence, 12 special teams) and one pass knockdown across 15 regular season contests. He added three defensive tackles in the Western Semi-Final at Saskatchewan.

Beaulieu enjoyed a breakout 2025 campaign, racking up 36 defensive tackles, a pair of interceptions and a forced fumble in 14 games before suffering a knee injury that kept him out until September of this year.

In 29 games with Laval from 2021-23, Beaulieu had 84.5 tackles, seven interceptions and four pass knockdowns. A two-time RSEQ All-Star, he helped the Rouge et Or win the Vanier Cup in 2022.
