Stamps sign American running back Tre Stewart

CALGARY -- The Calgary Stampeders have signed American running back Tre Stewart, the team announced on Monday.

Earlier this year, Stewart played two preseason games with the National Football’s League’s Arizona Cardinals after playing five games with the Orlando Storm of the United Football League. He signed with the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and appeared in three preseason matchups.

Collegiately, Stewart spent his senior season (2024) at Jacksonville State, making 12 starts in 14 games. He had 278 carries for 1,638 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding 18 catches for 234 yards and another score. Stewart earned first-team all-Conference USA honours with the Gamecocks. He previously played three seasons (2021-23) at Div. II Limestone in Gaffney, S.C., where he rushed 422 times for 2,994 yards and 24 touchdowns across 32 games. Stewart also recorded 68 receptions for 633 yards and five more majors with the Saints.

In a corresponding move, the Stampeders have released American defensive lineman Nevaeh Sanders. He had been on the team’s practice roster since being signed on Sept. 14.
